Variety of precollege programs offered July 9-20
Area parents looking to fill their middle and high school students' summer with educational fun and adventure should look into University of Wisconsin-Parkside Precollege Programs. "Summer STARS," Junior Doctors of Our Community, "Youth Biz," "Headlines," and others offer students entering sixth grade or higher this fall opportunities for summer enrichment and career exploration. Summer Precollege Programs are held July 9-20, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the UW-Parkside campus, 900 Wood Rd. in Kenosha.
During UW-Parkside Summer Precollege Programs, students can learn to build a video game, advance their math and science skills, and explore medical careers. Other courses offer strategies for starting a business, learning media production techniques of news reporters and television personality, and more. And while students are exploring potential careers they will also be learning to prepare for college.
Students will also participate in a variety of field trips. These include college visits, trips to museums and Milwaukee's I-Max Theatre, Kenosha's Action Territory, and Lake Geneva's Timber Ridge Lodge Water Park.
For an application and information on fees and available scholarships from the Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction, call the UW-Parkside Precollege Office at (262) 595-2176 or 595-2550.
