October Noon Concerts feature faculty, students

McKeever Duo headlines October Noon Concerts.

Only a month with five--count 'em, five!--Wednesdays could contain all the music the UW-Parkside Noon Concert series will present in October. Following a performance by internationally acclaimed marimba virtuoso Matthew Coley, the series highlights the talents of faculty and staff.

The October Noon Concerts are:
Oct. 3: Matthew Coley, Percussion
Oct.10: McKeever Duo, Piano
Oct. 17: Student Recital #1
Oct. 24: UW-Parkside Jazz Ensemble
Oct. 31: UW-Parkside Choirs

Known for his musical dexterity as a marimba, percussion, and dulcimer artist, Coley includes two of his own compositions--"Superfluous 1 and 2" and "Concealed Chambers"--among the six pieces he will perform.  

Wednesday, Oct. 10, the McKeever Duo of James and Susan McKeever share the Bedford Hall stage. They will perform:

• "Sheep May Safely Graze," composed by J. S. Bach and written for two players by Mary Howe
• Sonata No. 2 in B flat Major for Two Pianos by Muzio Clementi
• Prelude, Fugue, and Variation, Op. 18 by Cesar Franck, and
• Variations on a Theme of Beethoven, Op. 35 by Camille Saint-Saens

James McKeever is Professor of Piano at UW-Parkside. Susan McKeever is an Associate Lecturer at the university. Together as the McKeever Duo, they have performed extensively throughout the Midwest and South. Their repertoire includes works for two pianos as well as one piano, four hands.

UW-Parkside music majors take center stage Wednesday, Oct. 17, for the first of two fall semester student recitals. The program line-up for this concert is still being finalized. The second student recital takes place Wednesday, Nov. 7.

The UW-Parkside Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Russell Johnson performs Wednesday, Oct. 24. The UW-Parkside Choirs, led by James B. Kinchen, completes this busy month on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Selections for these performances will be shown on the campus events calendar.  

Each concert begins at noon in the acoustically perfect Frances Bedford Concert Hall of the Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts and Humanities. Admission is free.
