Have chili, have soup; help the United Way

Chances are most of us won't be in Nawlins for Mardi Gras but UW-Parkside has something even better scheduled for Fat Tuesday: the 11th annual Chili/Soup Cook Off. That's right! The Parkside Employee Alumni Group has set aside Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. for THE tastiest event of the year. And this year you can help the United Way at the same time.

Here's the deal for chefs: We need volunteers to show off their talents and enter a crock pots full of soup or chili. The winners of the taste test by our expert panel win the coveted Golden Chili Ladle or Soup Bowl traveling trophies, and a gift certificate to an area restaurant. Plus, and this is pretty cool, you earn the right to help judge next year's competition.

Here's the deal for chili and soup aficionados: For an insignificant amount of your coin, you get to sample as many of these delectable dishes as your system?and time?permit (the chili and soup will probably run out before you want to stop).

Space for chefs is limited, so submit your registrations early. Registrations are accepted online through Feb. 7. We need your help to make this a success, so please sign up now.

The Parkside Employee Alumni Group uses proceeds from the Chili/Soup Cook Off for the Alumni Scholarship Fund. And here's this year's twist: Chili and soup fans are invited to vote for their favorite chefs with their spare change. And that money goes to the university's United Way Campaign.

Chefs, let's hear from you by Feb. 7; connoisseurs, we'll see Tuesday, Feb. 12. Arrive hungry.
