Hi! I'm Ye Wang from Nicolet High in
WI. Different from any of you,
it's my first year in the USA (I wish it's not the last -_-) Right
now, I'm on AFS exchange program 06-07.
I first touched computers when I was only six years old. My mom
worked in the CS (I always think it's Counter Strike....) department
in her college and soon she founded her own company with her friend.
So the first thing I did with computers was playing a game called
Go to School. All I need to do was click the button to roll the
dice and the little child in the game walked several steps and won
some awards according to the grid he was in. That was enough to
amaze me at that age.
However, When I really did go to school, I found disappointedly
that it wasn't so fun as that in the game....I started programming
when I was in fourth grade. My first language was Logo - move the
turtle in order to draw different geometric pictures. With my good
performance in the contests, I went to one of the two math & science
classes in my city. And soon I started learning pascal and involved
in OI.
On my ninth grade, I changed my language to C++. And on the same
year, I was selected to represent my province in National Olympiad
in Informatics in China. I got 19th place - the top 20 were in the
camp - and was the best girl competitor. Last year, I got third
place and best girl competitor again. OI gave me great opportunities
to meet with other excellent students, learn different ideas, and
strengthen my ability of learning on my own.
Besides math and computer, my strongest interest, however, is art.
Although I haven't taken any professional classes, whenever I'm
free, I spend my time sketching. This year, I took Ceramics and won
an art award in my school. I've also learned keyboard for more than
four years, but because I'm soooooooooo lazy, without any practicing,
I can hardly remember any. So the only instrument I can play right
now is a little bit of mouth organ.....
I always feel excited about new challenges and I always try to catch
every opportunity around me. However, I'm so easy to be distracted,
since I can scarcely keep my interest in one place; computer is
what I carry on longest till now ^_^. Every year, you will find me
busy making plans, among them, there are many creative and amazing
ones, but I always forget them all in one week... Plans just don't
work on me.
I'm very free with the ways people live and think. Different ideas
and cultures always amaze me. My biggest dream right now is to
travel around the world, learning different languages and culture.
I'm so excited about going to the camp, which may be my last
performance in OI. I'm looking forward to meeting you in one week! ^_^
