NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION

Due to COVID-19 and Wisconsin's current Safer at Home order, we have had to alter our New Student Orientation for students beginning in Summer and Fall 2020. More information on your specific Orientation type can be found below.

Once your account is activated, register for your orientation session:
 

First Year Student Course Registration & Orientation
New, first year students (freshman) or transfer students with less than 12 credit hours. Due to COVID-19, we have modified our summer Orientation program. First Year students will need to sign up for a Virtual Course Registration Date (taking place in June and July) to meet with an advisor to select courses for the fall semester. In addition, students will need to sign up for an in-person August Orientation session.

Schedule & Times
You will be asked to attend an advising time between 9:00am - 4:00pm. Your specific advising time will be emailed to your Ranger Mail account six business days in advance of your Course Registration date.

You will either be assigned to section A or section B for the virtual course registration day. Please note that due to the number of students attending these Virtual Course Registration Days, we cannot take requests for specific advising times. In the email you receive six bussiness days in advance of your Course Registration date it will indicate if you are in seciton A or section B. We ask that you attend the Welcome at the start of the day and then your designated Advising Appointment time.

$125
The Orientation & Course Placement fee is charged to the student's SOLAR account and is part of the $260 New Student Fee.

Family & Guests
Families & guests are more than welcome to attend the In-Person August Orientation.  Please note that the student orientation and family orientation are separate but concurrent programs.  The cost to attend is $35 per person ($20 per child 2-11 years old, free for children 2 and under). These fees will be charged to the students’ SOLAR account.

Family/Guest Orientation schedule of events will be available July 1. 

Cancellation, Reschedule & No-Show
Rescheduling to a different Orientation session or cancelling a reservation may be done without a fee until 8 am central time 3 business days before the date of your session.

Due to costs incurred by New Student Services, a $25 fee is assessed to students or guests who change their date or cancel later than 8 am central time 3 business days prior to their scheduled session or do not show up for their scheduled Orientation session.

Changes/updates can be made by logging back into the database or by emailing orientation@uwp.edu.

Transfer Student Online Orientation
Transfer students with more than 12 credit hours. Due to COVID-19 we have made the decision to move our Transfer Orienation online. Beginning May 1, 2020, transfer students will be added to the Canvas course, "Parkside Online Orientation."

How to Access Transfer Online Orientation

  1. Login to your Ranger Mail Account.
  2. You will see an email from University of Wisconsin Canvas with the subject, "Course Invitation". Open the email and click the link that reads, "Get Started". This will have you login to your Canvas accnount.
  3. Once you have logged in you will be taken to the home page of the Online Orientation Course and will see the modules to complete.
  4. Complete all required sections. Once you have completed the final quiz you will eligible to meet with an academic advisor to select your courses. 

*We encourage your early completion of the Online Orientation in order to meet with an advisor in a timely manner.

Early College Credit Orientation
High School students who have been approved to participate in the Early College Credit program.

Date for Students starting in Fall 2020

  • August 21

This is the only Orientation date for the Early College Credit program.  You must attend this Orientation if you will be participating.

Course Placement

Any incoming student that has applied and been accepted to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to participate in the Early College Credit Program will be placed into their courses based on the guidelines set forth on the Placement Test website. 

Cost
There is no cost to attend Orientation or to take the Placement Test.  

Family & Guests
Each student is allowed to bring ONE Family Member or guest.  They will attend the same Orientation program as students, however Family Member/Guests will not participate in the academic advising/course registration portion of the Orientation. 

Failure to Attend
Failure to attend will result in being unable to participate in the Early College Credit Program during Fall 2020.

International Student Orientation

Graduate, Exchange, and Degree Seeking International Students.

ORIENTATION DATE(S)
August 27 - 28  |  8 am–4:30 pm

After you have made your flight/arrival arrangements, please share that information with International Student Services.

Please check your Ranger Mail account 3 business days prior for more information regarding the Orientation programming.

PLACEMENT TESTING DATE
August 26| 8 am-12 pm

Students that are required to take the Math and English Placement Tests will be notified. All undergraduate degree seeking students and students who DO NOT have transferable Math or English credits will be required to take Placement Testing.  Please check your Ranger Mail account 3 business days prior to Placement Testing for more information.

MAKING A RESERVATION
You will be registered by the staff in New Student Services for Placement (if required) and for Orientation.

If you are an Adult Learner (age 25+), a Re-Entry Transfer or Re-Admit student that has been gone for more than five academic years or a Veteran, you will be placed in the Parkside Online Orientation course on Canvas along with our Transfer students. 

Beginning May 1, 2020, students will be added to the Canvas course, "Parkside Online Orientation."
