SUMMARY:Dreamers Advocacy Special Topics Workshop: Supporting the Mental Health
	and Wellbeing of Dreamers
LOCATION:Wyllie D153
DESCRIPTION:In this interactive workshop\, participants will learn about the mental
health challenges associated with being an undocumented or DACA
individual. Joining us virtually is Dr. Dana Rusch\, Associate Professor
of Clinical Psychiatry at University of Illinois at Chicago and Director
of the Immigrant Family Mental Health Advocacy Program at the Institute
for Juvenile Research. Using her experience as a mental health provider
and policy advocate\, Dr. Rusch will share how we can support students
and families currently experiencing psychological distress and/or trauma
due to their citizenship status. Through exploration and discussion of
realistic scenarios\, participants will unlock key strategies for
nurturing mental health and wellbeing for individuals impacted by
immigration stressors. Participants will also hear from the Undocumented
Student Resources Committee who will share a new framework for
approaching this work at UW-Parkside\, as well as the most recent data
and legislation that directly affects members of our community. \n\nThis
is an in-person workshop with no option to attend virtually. We believe
that when engaging in dialogue on sensitive topics such as citizenship
status and mental health\, it is best to facilitate these interactions
face-to-face. Pre-registration is required. All individuals who attend
the entire workshop will receive a certificate and a DREAMers Welcome
poster. \n\nThis event has been organized by the Undocumented Student
Resources Committee and is sponsored by the Office of Equity\,
	Diversity\, &amp\; Inclusion. \n\nRegister Now
