This course will focus on the nature of conflict, how conflict is managed through communication, and the choices that result in constructive outcomes. Using the Lens Model of Conflict, we will see how our personal histories and cultural backgrounds influence our approach to managing differences and how they impact the way we communicate. We will identify the importance of conflict interests and goals, power dynamics and power balancing, and conflict styles (avoiding, accommodating, competing, compromising, collaborating).
This is a blended course that meets twice: first on January 31 and then on February 28. The rest of the coursework will be completed online in between the face-to-face meet dates.
