Free Speech and Minority Rights: Friends, Acquaintances, or Enemies?

October 15, 2019
12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Student Center, Oak Room

Speaker - Dr. Tim Shiell | CSII Director

Many people have come to believe that free speech and social justice are at odds, that robust free speech rights impede progress in equality for minorities because these rights protect racist and other bigoted speech.  Taking a look at the history of African Americans and other historically marginalized groups, Shiell presents evidence that in fact robust speech has been essential to the progress in equality for minorities.

A light lunch will be provided.
