The University of Wisconsin Parkside invites applicants for an IS Specialist.

Reporting to the Applications Development Services Manager, this position will work independently to provide reliable, high performance, secure and scalable application development, business analysis and system support services to the campus faculty and staff. This position provides technical support, among others, for the document imaging and workflow systems, data warehouse, reporting tools, student information system, and constituent relationship management system, whether hosted at UW Parkside or remotely.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

30% A. Management of Vendor-Supplied Systems

A1. Support document imaging, workflow, and other vendor-supplied systems.
A2. Provide guidance related to evolution and updates for these systems.
A3. Collaborate with vendors and UW partners in supporting systems.
A4. Support and look for new solutions for automation of services such as test scoring.

30% B. Decision Support Analysis and Reporting

B1. Provide technical support for data warehouse and business intelligence systems in collaboration with institutional research staff.
B2. Develop programs and processes related to these systems.
B3. Monitor health and performance of related processes.
B4. Collaborate with decision makers to ensure delivery of sound solutions for their needs.

30% C. Development of Enterprise Application and Integration

C1. Perform application development in student information system and other enterprise systems.
C2. Meet with customers to analyze needs, define requirements, and propose solutions.
C3. Test and debug programs.
C4. Prepare and update documentation.
C5. Hold regular knowledge transfer meetings with co-workers.
C6. Provide quality assurance.

10% D. Perform Other Duties

D1. Participate on committees.
D2. Travel to relevant meetings and conferences with supervisor's approval.
D3. Read trade literature and take courses related to the duties.
D4. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of computer applications and systems programming principles, techniques and capabilities
  • High level of comfort working with applications built in house as well as those provided by UW partners and vendors
  • Knowledge of Microsoft or Oracle database principles, techniques and capabilities
  • Knowledge of application development tools
  • Knowledge of data warehousing principles and tools
  • Knowledge of network principles
  • Ability to develop project schedules
  • Knowledge of technology trends and development
  • Ability to deal with stressful projects, difficult customers, tight deadlines and afterhours work
  • Ability to show up on time and work fixed, assigned hours (some telecommuting opportunities may be available) 

Ergonomic Requirements: 

Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, lift, carry, transport equipment and supplies and work on the computer for extended periods of time.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in a computer, information systems, or math related field
  • Two or more years experience providing application development services
  • Two or more years experience providing direct customer application support

Preferred:

  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft systems and tools
  • Experience supporting vendor-hosted systems
  • Experience managing databases
  • Experience developing interfaces and integrating applications
