POSITION SUMMARY

The Criminal Justice Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside seeks applicants for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, scheduled to start in the 2018-2019 academic year.

The Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice will teach a minimum of 24 credits per academic year in the core Criminal Justice courses and upper-level Criminal Justice electives, including advising students in the Criminal Justice degree program. The incumbent will establish and maintain an active research program involving undergraduate students. The incumbent will engage in service to the department, college, university, profession and community.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Ph.D in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or closely related field. A Law Degree (J.D.) only is not appropriate for this position. At the Assistant Professor rank, an ABD will be considered for a one-year Lecturer with conversion to a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor if all requirements for the degree have been successfully completed by March 1, 2019.
  • Required areas of expertise are research methods and/or race/crime
  • Teaching experience at the College/University level. Strong commitment to teaching 
  • Experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives
  • Experience interacting with a diverse and multicultural population

Preferred:

  • Preferred areas of expertise are criminal procedure, criminal law, family violence, and victimology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interest in teaching a diverse student population

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include: teaching, scholarly research and service

Teaching: Teach a load of 24 credits in the core courses and upper level electives in the Criminal Justice major

  • Advise students majoring in Criminal Justice

Scholarly Research: Establish and maintain an active research program

Service: Participate in departmental/campus/community/professional service

  • Perform others duties as assigned
