90.01 Network Access Restriction
When notifications of copyright violations are received from recognized groups, such as the Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA), the registered user will be notified and additional actions will be taken restricting access of the identified device to the network. In addition, the user may be referred to the Dean of Students' Office for possible additional disciplinary action.
The student's or visitor's networked device on which the violation has occurred will be deregistered from the UW-Parkside network and prevented from further access to the network as described below. The owner of the device will receive no advance notice of the disconnection. If otherwise eligible the user will retain other access to campus resources including access to lab computers, if applicable.
The following sanctions are a guide to the disciplinary hearing officer and represent minimal actions that could be taken. The student or campus visitor (further referred to as "student") could face possible additional sanctions, such as loss of campus network connectivity, disciplinary probation and/or suspension from UW campuses, as permitted under UWS Chapter 17, Student Non-Academic Disciplinary Procedures. Students will be afforded the procedural guarantees of due process under Chapter UWS 17 Student Non-Academic Disciplinary Procedures and the right, if requested, to a hearing before a hearing examiner or a hearing committee for alleged violations of computing technology policies.
These sanctions are in addition to any legal actions, costs, and any other penalties that may be charged by other organizations, law enforcement, and other entities.
90.02 First Offense
The student will be notified by the Dean of Students office that the offending device will not be allowed to connect (will have its connection disabled) for a period of fourteen (14) calendar days of enrollment at UW-Parkside, which will start when the area network manager receives notice of the copyright violation from the copyright holder and/or a representative.
90.03 Second Offense
The student will be notified by the Dean of Students office that the offending device will not be active on the campus network for a period of twenty-eight (28) calendar days of enrollment at UW-Parkside. The twenty-eight (28) calendar days will begin when the area network manager receives notice of the copyright violation from the copyright holder and/or representative.
90.04 Third Offense
The student will be notified by the Dean of Students office that the offending device will not be active on the campus network for a period of fifty-six (56) calendar days of enrollment at UW-Parkside. The fifty-six (56) calendar days will begin when the area network manager receives notice of the copyright violation from the copyright holder and/or representative.
