The Cultural Connection Program pairs international and exchange students with U.S. hosts from the UW-Parkside community. It is similar to a host family program, but there is no live-in component. The CCP is a great opportunity to build relationships outside of campus, which will allow to you to learn about and experience U.S. culture in different ways. Your host may also assist you in acclimating to life in the United States. The CCP aims to develop mutually-beneficial relationships among hosts and students through interacting and engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
What should I expect? There are no parameters on how often the students and hosts who are involved in the CCP meet. The growth and maintenance of the relationship is completely up to you! Some activities you can expect to engage in with your host include: joining them for holiday events (Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.), touring and shopping trips, having a meal together, etc. However, hosts are not expected to support you financially (i.e. pay for your meals, admission to special events, etc.), provide you with lodging, or get involved in legal situations.
UWP international and exchange students can get involved by completing this form. It is best if you complete this form prior to arriving at UWP. Once your form is received and reviewed, you will be informed of the host you have been paired with.
