Parent Resources

We are excited about your student's interest in studying abroad. Likely, you have many concerns regarding your student's travel to a foreign country.  Because we share those concerns, we have instituted the following measures to help your student find the right program and stay safe while abroad:

  • Initial meeting with Study Abroad advisor to discuss programs the student is interested in and possible options.
  • Guidance during application to Study Abroad programs.
  • Help from our staff to ensure that your student has the proper paperwork
  • Required Study Abroad orientation on
    • Safety issues
    • Culture shock
    • Expectations from the host country
    • Local customs

We hope that parents will be our allies in the study abroad process and share in the student's excitement.  Invaluable lessons and qualities such as maturity, independence, and cultural sensitivity, all developed by studying abroad, are important in the increasingly competitive job market.

Keeping Informed

In many circumstances, the federal law known as FERPA prevents educational institutions from releasing information about students to anyone, not even their parents. We encourage you to keep informed about your son's/daughter's study abroad program by talking directly with him/her about it.

Before students depart for their study abroad program, participants will be asked to complete the Study Abroad Student - Release of Information form.
