What is your current job?
Marketing Coordinator at Birchwood Foods
How did UW-Parkside help prepare you for this job?
UW-Parkside helped prepare me for my current job by exposing me to important skills like teamwork, time management, and being comfortable in a business environment. During my time at UW-Parkside, I was able to gain valuable experience talking to all different types of people through my CBEC internship and various marketing courses. Giving presentations to high school students is very different from local business professionals, so I was able to learn how to tailor my message to the targeted group. Additionally, having experiences that focused on working in a team and then presenting to groups of people simulated what I have to do in my job now. On a daily basis, I am assigned a project and then have to be prepared to present my findings and results to other departments within the company.
What would be your advice to students at UW-Parkside currently pursuing a CBEC degree?
My best advice would be to build relationships with your professors. This will only benefit you in the future because you will have access to opportunities that you may not have found on your own. The professors at UW-Parkside are great resources when it comes to applying for internships and jobs, so don't be afraid to ask them for help with resumes, applications, or preparing for interviews.
