Scholarships enable students to devote more time to internships, student government and other organizations, as well as study-abroad opportunities – all of which are critical to a successful and broad-based learning experience. If you are interested in establishing scholarship, the first step is to determine whether you would like to establish an "endowed" scholarship or an "annual" scholarship:
Endowed scholarship funds are designed to be permanent and perpetual. Funds are contributed in full at the outset or with an initial commitment that is added to over time until the endowment level is attained. The principal of the fund is invested to produce income, and an annual award is made to a student. The principal remains untouched, so the endowment can last into perpetuity.
Annual scholarships are an opportunity to give a yearly gift UW-Parkside and sustain our scholarship program. Unlike an endowed scholarship described above, an annual scholarship is not a permanent fund and is awarded only as long you (or others) choose to contribute to the fund.
Scholarship donors may specify criteria/guidelines to be used for the selection of a recipient. University representatives will use those criteria during the selection process.
The donor and the development officer establish guidelines for both endowed and annual scholarships. This is based on the donor's interest and university/student needs.
