Ami Bouterse, CCC-SLP is Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin–Parkside, where she serves as Voice Area Coordinator and Coordinator of the Contemporary Commercial Music–Voice Program. Her teaching responsibilities include applied voice, directing the contemporary a cappella ensemble Parkside Range, and teaching courses in vocal pedagogy and contemporary commercial music.

A versatile soprano, Professor Bouterse has appeared in opera and musical theater with Skylight Opera Theatre, Ash Lawn Opera Festival, Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, New York Japan Society, and Milwaukee Opera Theater, among others. She has premiered works by Jorge Muñiz, Ayesu Lartey, and Rubén Prieto, and her performances have been praised for their “exquisite mastery of pitch and nuance” and “fully realized character.”

Under her direction since 2016, Parkside Range has become the flagship ensemble of the CCM–Voice Program, performing at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, Acapocalypse, SoJam, and the National A Cappella Convention.

Professor Bouterse holds degrees in voice and opera theater performance from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Carnegie Mellon University, and advanced (Level III) certification in Jeanne LoVetri’s Somatic Voicework™. She earned a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Emerson College, obtaining licensure as a speech-language pathologist specializing in voice habilitation and rehabilitation.

She owns About Voice – Speech Therapy Services and AB Voice Studio, where she helps singers and speakers restore, enhance, and grow their voices. Honored with multiple Chancellor’s Awards for innovative assessment and student wellbeing initiatives, Ami is dedicated to helping each student discover their potential through creativity, evidence-based teaching, and inclusive pedagogy.
