Sharazazi Dyson, Ph.D. LPC (IL), is an Assistant Professor of Counseling in the Psychology, Professional Counseling, and Neuroscience Department. She earned her doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from Northern Illinois University (NIU). Her research areas include power, race and ethics. As a counselor educator, Dr. Dyson is interested in culturally responsive teaching strategies and supervising. As a counselor, Dr. Dyson works with clients ranging from adults, minors, couples and families.
Teaching Interests
As a counselor educator, I believe it is important to encourage creativity, equity, ethical-decision making and multicultural awareness into educational experiences in an inclusive learning environment that requires everyone to engage effectively in the learning environment. My goal is to provide a safe environment where student's can meet the stated course objectives while also engaging in self-discovery and reflective learning that will enhance confidence and authenticity as a professional. My research interests focuses on issues of power, race, culturally responsive teaching and ethics, particularly in counseling and counselor education. With this approach, to develop accessible and intentional education, resources, and support for the communities I partner with, collaborate with and teach and have presented on these topics, nationally, regionally and locally.
Consulting Interests
I provide consultation and training to counseling practices, agencies and organizations regarding counseling and supervision and the integration of social justice, counseling ethics and cross-cultural collaboration, self-care and wellness.
