Parkside Wind Ensemble & Community Band
Join us for a special evening of music on Thursday, October 8, at 7:00 p.m. in Bedford Concert Hall, featuring the UW-Parkside Community Band and the world premiere of a newly commissioned work by acclaimed Australian composer Jodie Blackshaw.
The premiere performance of Cirrus, the Sky Dancer was commissioned by a member of the Community Band and represents a unique collaboration between composer and ensemble. Blackshaw will work with the band throughout the rehearsal process via Zoom, offering musicians a rare opportunity to engage directly with the composer in bringing this new work to life.
Leading up to the concert, Blackshaw, Director of Bands Dr. James Ripley, and the commissioner of the work will be featured on The Morning Show with Greg Berg to discuss the project and the excitement surrounding the premiere.
The concert program also celebrates outstanding contributions by women composers and includes:
- One Life Beautiful by Julie Giroux, a moving and inspiring work of exceptional beauty
- Dances for the Muse, Terpsichore by Carol Brittin Chambers, a colorful multi-movement composition inspired by Renaissance dance traditions
- Ecstatic Fanfare by Steven Bryant, an energetic and exhilarating opening work
