The Department of Health, Exercise Science and Sport Management (HESM) offers majors in either sport or fitness management. Starting in the fall of 2017 HESM transitioned their Certificates to Minors. You can earn three different minors within our department including a Sport Management Minor, Exercise Science Minor and our popular Coaching Minor. The exercise science curriculum provides the necessary knowledge and experience to develop a customized fitness/wellness program leading to greater lifelong health and wellness. The sport management curriculum stresses individual proficiency and fundamental management skills. Courses stress preparation for careers in sport marketing, sport management or sport law, to name a few. In team-type activities, familiarization with strategy and advanced skills also will be taught. The certificates are designed to supplement an existing major with career-specific course work and enhance employment opportunities.
The Sports and Activity Center houses HESM along with the recreation and athletic programs. The facility opened in the fall of 2000 and consists of both new and remodeled spaces. Indoor space includes a gymnasium and field house containing tennis, volleyball, badminton and basketball courts as well as a 200-meter track. In addition there are classrooms, a strength and conditioning center, dance studio, multi-purpose room, combative room, Wellness Center, eight-lane pool, and equipment room. Outdoor space includes eight soccer fields, baseball diamond, Case Softball Complex, 400-meter all-weather track, six tennis courts, and a cross country course.
