Health Psychology Minor
If you are interested in our nursing program this minor was created for you. Completing a minor in health psychology has several benefits to you. This minor adds knowledge depth which is a great benefit to your professional nursing career and the additional academic credential can give you a competitive edge in the job market.
This minor also gives you options. Our outstanding Nursing program is highly competitive; there are significantly more applicants than positions available. Pre-nursing students who earn the health psychology minor, but are not successful in gaining acceptance to the nursing program can pursue a major in psychology, and complete an undergraduate degree within a four-year time period.
Although this minor was created in to support our nursing students, it is a minor that any Parkside student would be eligible to pursue. If you pursue this minor and develop an interest in going beyond this minor to obtain a Psychology major, you become a strong candidate for a master degree program.
Health Psychology Minor (24 credits)
Core Courses (9 credits)
- PSYC 101 – Intro to Psychological Sciences (3 cr.)
- PSYC 250 – Psychological Statistics (3 cr.)
- PSYC 300 – Research Methods in Psychology (3 cr.)
Breadth Courses (6 credits)
- PSYC 210 – Developmental Psychology (3 cr.)
- PSYC 205 – Cognitive Psychology OR PSYC 220 – Social Psychology (3 cr.)
Depth Courses (9 credits)
- PSYC 325 – Biological Psychology (3 cr.)
- PSYC 360 – Abnormal Psychology (3 cr.)
- PSYC 363 – Health Psychology (3 cr.)
No additional PSYC courses are required to meet course prerequisites (i.e., no hidden PSYC prerequisites)
A student cannot earn both a minor and a major in psychology.
