Eligibility
Aptitude tests such as the GMAT and GRE are not required for admission.
You may be eligible for admission to this program if you have completed a bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 or better grade point average (GPA) and prerequisite courses in elementary statistics, medical terminology, and oral communications or public speaking. (Students with a GPA of less than 3.0 may be considered for a provisional admission.)
Prerequisites
Recent, relevant coursework in the following three areas:
- Elementary statistics
- Medical terminology
- Oral communications/public speaking
Students must satisfy all prerequisites before starting program coursework and will not be allowed to take outstanding prerequisite courses concurrently with introductory program courses.
Communications and Marketing in Healthcare | HCA 710
This course focuses on the use and analysis of communication strategies to inform and influence individual and community decisions that impact health.
Healthcare Technology, Data Analytics, and Information Governance | HCA 715
This course covers tech- and data-related topics in healthcare including electronic health records, health IT privacy and security, health information exchanges, IT for revenue cycle management, healthcare data analytics, technologies for diagnosis and treatment, and big data applications in healthcare.
Current and Emerging Topics in Healthcare | HCA 780
This course investigates current and emerging trends influencing healthcare today, including policies and politics, ethics, emerging technologies, healthcare population and disease demographics, and reimbursement models. You will explore and understand the differences between rural, urban, and global settings.
Admission to the UW Master of Science in Healthcare Administration requires
- A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an accredited university and a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0. Students with a GPA less than 3.0 may be considered for a provisional admission and should contact an enrollment adviser for more information.
- Official college transcripts
- Prerequisite coursework in elementary statistics, medical terminology, and oral communication/public speaking
- Your resume
- A personal statement of up to 1,000 words describing your professional goals and how you envision the Master of Science in Healthcare Administration program at UW-Parkside will help you to reach those goals. Also describe your interest in Healthcare Administration and how your experiences – academic, work, volunteer and/or personal – have led you to apply for this graduate program.
