Studio Art Minor

I am originally from Tucson, AZ and in 2003 moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Kenosha to begin my professorship at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. I am currently a Full Professor in the Department of Art and Design where I served as department chair (2012-2018) and now lead the campus’ Leadership and Personalized Studies BA/AA and UW Collaborative Online Associates of Arts and Sciences. In addition to those posts, I was appointed in 2026 to serve as the Associate Director of the BSBA Flex program to assist with its curricular and administrative efforts.

Active in my studio practice, I exhibit nationally, including solo shows in New York City, Chicago, Minneapolis, and throughout California. My work has been featured and reviewed in several publications, including American Craft, Ceramics Monthly, National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), and multiple books. I’ve given workshops, lectures, and classes at various professional venues around the country, and I’ve held Artist-in-Residence positions at City University of New York-Hunter College, Northern Clay Center (as a McKnight awardee), and Works San Jose — among other internationally competitive studios.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI, Trenton Baylor received a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Certification to Teach Art (K-12) from the University of Wisconsin –Parkside’96 and a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin Madison ’99. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Art and Design Department at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside where he teaches Sculpture, Digital Fabrication and Woodworking and Furniture Design courses. He continues to exhibit his sculpture in local, regional, and national exhibitions and has several works in public and private collections.

I was born in Providence, Rhode Island and attended Haverford College, where I received a BA in Painting in 2000. After working as a graphic designer for a year, I relocated to New York City, where I entered the PhD program in Art History at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. I moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 2012, where I completed my dissertation in 2013. While in grad school, I taught courses at the School of Visual Arts, Brooklyn College, New York City College of Technology, Montclair State University, and Metropolitan State University of Denver. I began teaching at Parkside in 2014 and received tenure in 2020. In addition to my teaching duties, in 2020 I began serving as Director of the General Education Program.

Carey Watters is a multidisciplinary artist, graphic designer, and Professor of Art at the University of Wisconsin–Parkside, where she serves as Director of Graphic Design and Faculty Director for Community-Based Learning. Her work bridges studio practice, design education, and community-engaged visual culture, with a focus on experiential learning and public-facing creative projects.
Watters’ artistic practice includes printmaking, book arts, collage, installation, and paper-based work inspired by architectural history, ancient iconography, and mythic narratives. Her research explores themes of mapping, cultural memory, and the symbolic visual systems through which stories and identities are preserved across time.
As a designer and educator, Watters has developed innovative curriculum and led large-scale collaborative initiatives that connect students with professional practice and community partnerships. Her work often extends beyond the classroom through public art and international collaborations, including projects in Italy, Sicily, and Turkey.
Watters has exhibited nationally and internationally and has received numerous grants, fellowships, and residencies supporting her creative scholarship. She is committed to fostering rigorous design thinking, strong craft, and meaningful cultural exchange through both her teaching and her artistic work.
