Post 9-11 GI Bill®

General information

The Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service after September 10, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. This benefit provides up to 36 months of education benefits, generally benefits are payable for 15 years following your release from active duty.

How to apply for an initial Certificate of Eligibility

Fill out Form 22-1990 (or 22-1990E for transferred benefits) using the new Vets.gov portal to submit the form.

What paperwork should I submit?

There are three documents that must be turned in to the Parkside School Certifying Official

1. A copy of your most recent Certificate of Eligibility or Proof of Remaining Eligibility
2. A copy of your DD-214
3. Request for Veteran Educational Benefits (R-VAB)

I am not a Wisconsin Resident – can I use the Yellow Ribbon Program?

If you are being assessed non-resident tuition and qualify for the Post 9/11 GI Bill® at 100% you may be able to use the Yellow Ribbon Program to cover the additional tuition. Please send an email to veterans@uwp.edu requesting to use the Yellow Ribbon Program.

What if I am not awarded 100% Post 9/11 GI Bill®?

If the Post 9/11 GI Bill® only covers a percentage of your tuition and fees, you may qualify for the Wisconsin GI Bill® to pay the remaining balance.
