The UW-Parkside Distinguished Alumni Awards celebrate and honor the rich legacy of learning and accomplishments by those graduates who have excelled in their chosen field or performed exemplary service to our community.

Anthony Dodd Sr. is the Superintendent of Marshall Sherrer Correctional Center for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, where he leads with a vision centered on safety, accountability, rehabilitation, and successful reentry. A proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Parkside with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Anthony has dedicated more than 27 years to public
service, advancing innovative correctional practices that strengthen individuals, families, and communities.

Anthony began his career as a Correctional Officer in 1999 and steadily rose through the ranks, serving as Lieutenant, PREA Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent of the Milwaukee County Community Reintegration Center (CRC), and now Superintendent of Marshall Sherrer Correctional Center. Throughout his career, he has challenged traditional approaches to corrections by creating opportunities that prepare incarcerated individuals for successful reintegration into society.

While serving as Assistant Superintendent at the CRC, Anthony led several groundbreaking initiatives that gained national recognition. He helped secure housing vouchers for eligible residents returning to the community, providing a critical foundation for successful reentry and reducing barriers to stable housing. Through a first-of-its-kind partnership with BankOn Greater Milwaukee, he helped make the CRC the first correctional facility in the nation to assist residents in opening personal bank accounts while still incarcerated, improving financial inclusion and preparing individuals for employment and independence upon release. He also expanded civic engagement by partnering with the League of Women Voters to increase eligible residents’ access to voter registration and voting opportunities, reinforcing the importance of civic responsibility and community participation.

Anthony has also developed partnerships with organizations including the Milwaukee Bucks, Marquette University, Milwaukee Area Technical College, Project Return, and numerous other community organizations to expand educational, vocational, employment, and reentry opportunities that improve public safety while reducing recidivism.

As a nationally certified Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Auditor, Anthony is recognized for his leadership in correctional operations, organizational improvement, and advancing evidence-based practices. His commitment to innovation and collaboration has earned him recognition as one of Madison365’s Most Influential Black Leaders in Wisconsin.

Anthony remains dedicated to mentoring future leaders, building meaningful partnerships, and redefining the role of corrections through rehabilitation, accountability, and hope. The University of Wisconsin–Parkside Alumni Service Award recognizes his lifelong commitment to servant leadership and his enduring impact on the lives of individuals, families, and communities throughout Wisconsin.
