Thank you for considering The University of Wisconsin Parkside for your higher education.Transitioning from high school to college, or returning as a non-traditional student, can often be both an exciting and anxious time in your life. UW Parkside strives to create an accessible environment in the classroom and on campus.
Below are the most common questions we receive, and hope that you find them helpful. We understand you may need more information and we would be happy to review your questions about accommodations in college. You can contact our office to schedule an appointment.
IEPs are not usually sufficient in college to determine eligibility, but please submit it to begin the process. The SAS specialist with review appropriate documentation when you meet.
Accommodations are made on a case-by-case basis. Some of the more common ones include extended time on exams and quizzes, distraction-reduced testing environment, preferential seating in the classroom, tape recording of lectures, alternative textbooks, interpreting/captioning. A student meeting with the disability specialist and submitting documentation can take from 1-2 weeks for accommodations to start.
We have two, they act as a liaison if a student is having a problem obtaining their accommodations in the classroom.
Yes, UW-Parkside is accessible according to the Americans with Disabilities Act Amended 2008.
Tutoring is not an academic accommodation at the college level. There is a tutoring center, called the Parkside Academic Resource Center (PARC) that is available for use by all students.
No, it will not, additional information will be needed by your provider. Services received during K-12 are covered under different legislation than those received during college. A 504 plan is useful however, in reviewing history of documentation and services. Please provide to SAS specialist.
No. Documentation review decisions are made independently at different institutions.
