Admitted International Student Checklist

Welcome to Parkside!

As an international student, it's important to follow these steps to successfully enroll at Parkside. Click the green drop down menus below to see detailed instructions for becoming a Parkside student.

1. Account Activation and Rangermail

ACCOUNT ACTIVATION
If you did not activate your account during the application process, now is the time. Set up your UW-Parkside account, visit: uwp.edu/activate. Your username and PIN were emailed to you within one business day of your application

RANGERMAIL
As an admitted student, all correspondence is sent to your RangerMail account. Check this account regularly. Your email address is your username followed by @rangers.uwp.edu. To get to RangerMail, click on logins at the top of the Parkside homepage (uwp.edu). Read the guide on how to check RangerMail.

2. Submit SEVIS I-901 Fee AND Visa application DS-160 with fee

PAY SEVIS I-901 FEE
Once you have the Certificate of Eligibility form, you must pay the SEVIS 1-901 fee online at FMJfee.com/. A SEVIS I-901 receipt should be printed and presented at your visa interview. Students from Cameroom, Ghana, Kenya, Gambia, and Nigeria must pay by money order or Western Union Payor certified check from a U.S. Bank. Visit studyinthestates.dhs.gov

SUBMIT VISA APPLICATION DS-160 WITH FEE
Submit the DS-160 Nonimmigrant Visa Application (with fee) so a visa interview can be scheduled. Read through details at: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/study/student-visa.html#howtoapply

3. Purchase airline ticket and submit Flight Information Form to Parkside

PURCHASE AIRLINE TICKET AFTER RECEIPT OF VISA

Once you have received your visa, you can purchase your airline ticket. Please submit the Flight Information Form to Parkside so that we may coordinate with housing to prepare for your arrival.

4. Sign Up for Housing and Health Insurance

HOUSING AND RESIDENCE HALLS
International students must live in university residence halls unlessa housing exemption is met. To complete a housing contract,find more about residence halls, and learn about the housing requirement, visit uwp.edu/residencelife/.

HEALTH INSURANCE COVERAGE
UW-Parkside requires that all international students purchase health insurance while enrolled in the university. See
uwp.edu/live/services/studenthealth/insurance.cfm for more info. The State of Wisconsin requires that all international students be fully covered by health insurance. For complete information about the Student Assurance Services International Student/Scholar Plan, see sas-mn.com/.

Spouses and children must also be covered by insurance for an additional fee. You will be automatically enrolled in the health insurance plan and charged for this on your student account.

TUBERCULOSIS (TB) TESTING
Students from countries in which tuberculosis is endemic must be tested at the Student Health & Counseling Center upon arrival.

5. Register for New Student Orientation to enroll full time

ORIENTATION
All international students must attend orientation to be provided important information of campus resources, health insurance, immigration regulations, internships, working, banking, health and safety, etc. Course schedules are also confirmed during orientation.

Register for orientation and use your username and password to log in.

All incoming international students will take a math and English placement test, unless you have satisfactory transfer credit. If you are unsure if your credit is applicable, register for the placement test. The placement test is available for an additional fee via computer or you are able to take your placement test when you arrive on campus for orientation

REGISTRATION
All international students must enroll full-time. This means as an undergraduate (bachelor’s degree) you will be required to enroll for 12 credit hours per semester. If you have applied for graduate work or a master’s degree, you are required to enroll in a combination of courses (typically 3 courses or a combination equal to 9 credit hours) per semester.

Students must consult with their assigned academic advisor before registering for classes. Contact the International Student Services/Study Abroad Office for the name/contact of your advisor to ensure pre-registration before your arrival on campus. Students will be pre-registered for their classes and will have the opportunity to meet with an advisor and make any schedule changes during orientation.

6. Prepare documents to bring with you and upload photo

BRING THESE IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS WITH YOU TO CAMPUS
• I-20 or DS-2019
• Passport with visa
• Acceptance Letter

UPLOAD PHOTO FOR RANGER ID CARD
Save time by having your Parkside Ranger Identification Card ready and waiting for you by uploading your photo online at uwp.edu/live/services/rangercard/rangercardphoto.cfm.
