Campus Initiatives

Land Stewardship

Through partnership with the Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network, the campus manages and restores our natural areas.

Stormwater Management

UW-Parkside is located within the Pike River Watershed, which flows into Lake Michigan. The campus’s Stormwater Management Program includes installation, monitoring, and maintenance of green infrastructure, to minimize pollutant runoff into waterways.

Energy

Strides have been made to reduce energy consumption through energy efficiency improvements. Addtionally, five solar installations can be found around campus, generating 4.4 megawatts of renewable electricity.

Miles of hiking and running trails are available for students and the public, as well as a newly-constructed mountain bike trails.

  • Chiwaukee Prairie is the largest remaining intact coastal wetland in Southeastern Wisconsin. The Prairie contains over 400 Species of plants, including many rare or endangered species. The prairie is managed through a partnership with the Nature Conservancy, UW-Parkside, and the WDNR.
