University of Wisconsin-Parkside Sees Growth in New Undergraduates
KENOSHA, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Parkside welcomed a larger first-year class of new freshmen and transfer students this fall, according to first-day enrollment data. Day one enrollment showed an increase of 8.4 percent over last year’s entering freshman class. This year’s incoming class of nearly 900 undergraduates is the second largest at UW-Parkside in the last five years. This fall, UW-Parkside will welcome over 1000 new students across its undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
“These results show the strength of our programs and the confidence new students have in UW-Parkside as their university of choice,” said Dr. Lynn Akey, Chancellor of UW-Parkside. “Students and families are responding to the kind of personal attention they know they will get at UW-Parkside.”
In addition to a larger number of first-time and transfer students, the university is expecting to welcome its largest-ever dual enrollment class of high school students this fall. While soft demand for graduate programs may bring the total official fall headcount down slightly, these numbers will not include additional students now enrolling in six new accelerated online undergraduate programs that do not start until mid-semester, Akey said.
Akey further noted that UW-Parkside is serving over 200 additional students not captured in official counts. This includes students enrolled in UW-Parkside’s innovative competency-based FLEX Business program and students attending courses at UW-Parkside in a collaborative Nursing program with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Adding these students to the total headcount means that Parkside will serve more than 4,100 learners this fall.
Our primary goal, Akey continued, is to serve our communities by providing educational opportunities that students are seeking for their lives and careers. To spark growth, the university is expanding programs in high-demand areas such as the newly announced Master of Science, Physician Assistant (PA) program, and online and in-person Clinical Mental Health Counseling programs.
“UW-Parkside plays a crucial role in Southeastern Wisconsin by connecting student success with employer needs,” Akey said. “UW-Parkside is proud of the role it plays in our region for first-generation and first-time higher education seekers. We will continue our work specializing in making more possible for our students through the focused, connected, and personal approach UW-Parkside is known for.”
