The University of Wisconsin-Parkside announced it will host a virtual Winter Commencement Ceremony this year, set for Saturday, December 12, 2020.

The university’s decision to go virtual is based on state and local healthcare advisories and the recent increase in COVID-19 cases. Last week the university announced that all instruction will be delivered via remote means starting Nov. 27 and running through Winterim session Jan. 29.

In a note to UWP’s graduates, Chancellor Debbie Ford said “We know this has been a challenging year for all. We want to celebrate this great achievement with you and end the year on an exciting, once-in-a-lifetime note.”

The event starts at 9:30 a.m. and features livestreamed and prerecorded segments for each college, including opening messages from Chancellor Ford and college deans. All viewers will first join the livestream together and then access the prerecorded segment for their respective colleges.

Graduates are also encouraged to post a graduation photo to share with friends and family on Instagram, using the hashtag #parksidegrad. Along with the photos, graduates should include their name, major, and their specific 2020 graduation class (December, August, or May). Photos will appear on the commencement ceremony page at uwp.edu/classof2020.

More information is available on the UW-Parkside commencement website.
