Adrienne Viramontes is an Associate Professor in the Communication Department and serves as Graduate Director for the Professional Communication Master's program. She holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from Purdue University Calumet, and a Ph.D. in Speech Communication from Southern Illinois University. She specializes in identity, intersectionality, qualitative research methods, and Chicana/o history and identities.

Teaching Interests

She regularly teaches undergraduate classes in oral interpretation, qualitative research methods, public relations, and narrative theory and performance, as well as graduate classes in the philosophy of communication and autoethnography.

Research Interests

She specializes in the study of lived experience and identity as it intersects race, class, gender, sexuality, geographic locale, etc. She specializes in the study of Midwestern Mexican American identities and experiences within social, political and economic matrices.
