Message from the Chief
On behalf of the UW-Parkside Police Department, I am pleased to present our annual report for 2024. I am privileged to lead a group of dedicated law enforcement professionals. This report highlights some of the accomplishments of our amazing team who work tirelessly to make our campus one of the safest in Wisconsin and the nation.
In 2024 our staff presented safety and educational outreach training in such areas as Active Shooter, Alcohol and Drug Awareness, Coffee with a Cop, Police and Community Relations, Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence, SANE, Self-Defense, CPR, COOP, Juvenile Justice, Women in the CJ System, and YHOP.
In September, UW-Parkside hosted the UW Board of Regents for two days. Prior Board of Regent meetings at other UW campuses resulted in demonstrations, disruptions, and arrests. As a result, UW-Parkside Police made extensive advance planning for security at the event. Police officers from UW-Milwaukee, UW-Whitewater, and the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department assisted in staffing the event. The two day went on without any incidents and by all accounts was a success.
2024 was a busy year for retirements and recruitments. In August, Anthony Powell retired as a Police Dispatcher II with close to 25 years of service to the UW-Parkside Police Department and over 30 years of service to the University. In October, Kurt Bergendahl retired as a police officer with over 28 years of service to UW-Parkside. We thank both of them for their many years of dedicated service. Their institutional knowledge and leadership will be missed. The police department also hired 8 Community Service Officers to replace 5 who left during the year.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our efforts to keep the campus community safe and for your support of our police department.
Go Rangers!
