Your Grades and GPA

Your Grades

View Your Grades

You can see your grades in SOLAR. Once logged in, select Enrollment/View My Grades. You will then need to select a term. Grades will appear in Official Grades tab. Official grades typically appear in SOLAR about two weeks after the end of the term.

Transcript of Grades

Grades also appear on your transcript, which is a record from recent and past semesters. Current students can view their unofficial transcripts in SOLAR. Current and former students can request official transcripts. Transcripts or diplomas will not be issued if you have a financial hold on your account.

Dean's List

To qualify for the Dean's List, an undergraduate must complete at least 9 credits and earn a term grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Grade Requirements

Some majors require minimum grades for certain courses and to enter or earn the major. Be sure to consult with your advisor, your degree plan, and the academic catalog.

All Parkside students are required to maintain a 2.0 GPA to avoid academic probation or dismissal. Learn more about the Academic Warning, Probation, and Suspension policy.

Privacy of Student Records

Students sometimes wonder if their grades are visible to their family. Generally speaking, your grades are not shared without your permission.

The distribution of your student information and records, including your grades, is governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Grades that are not A-F

Occasionally, you will see grades that are not the familiar A-F format. These unique grades each have a different meaning.

I – Incomplete
This indicates that you didn't complete all the work in a course and that the instructor has provided you an opportunity to complete the work after the term is finished. The I will convert to an F if the work is not completed by the end of the next term..

W – Withdrawal
This means you withdrew from the course after the deadline date.

NR – No Report
This means a grade has not been reported. Contact your instructor about your grade.

CR – Credit
This means you passed the course and earned the credits. The hours are not used in the calculation of your GPA.

Your GPA

Calculating Your G.P.A.

Each letter grade carriers a certain number of quality points per credit. For example, a grade of "B" is worth 3 quality points per credit. If you received a "B" in a 3-credit course, you would have earned a total of 9 quality points.

Your grade point average (GPA) is a measure of your academic achievement. Your GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of grade quality points you earn by the total number you attempted. The result, rounded off to two decimal places, is your GPA. For most purposes, two decimal places is plenty. There are some instances that will calculate three decimal places.

29.990 Total Quality Points dived by 10 Total Credits = 2.999

NOTE: GPA calculation truncates after three decimal places (i.e. 2.999 is 2.999 and does not get rounded to 3.000)
