About Jonathan Nashel

Jonathan Nashel is Professor of History at Indiana University, South Bend. He received his PhD in American History from Rutgers University and teaches courses on twentieth century American history, the Cold War, and American film and photographic history.

Motorbikes | Motion | Vietnam captures the kinetic energy and daily rhythms of Vietnamese street life through images taken during Nashel's travels in 2023 and 2024. In a country where motorbikes are essential to navigating the whirling chaos of urban landscapes, these vehicles represent more than transportation. They embody freedom and possibility for millions of Vietnamese people.
