The University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for the position of Assistant Controller.
This position reports to the Controller, and works closely with Purchasing, the Bursar, and Budget Office to aid in the implementation, maintenance and integrity of the campus financial policies and accounting systems. This accountant serves as a working manager, and supervises the work of others in the Business Services department and is responsible for general ledger operations, fiscal records, compliance, audit lead, and financial operations.
Essential Job Functions
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises professional fiscal and accounting staff.
- Serves as a working manager.
- Responsible for the general ledger, accounting and fiscal records, AP, the purchasing support function, purchasing card and travel card administration, grant post a-ward activities, and travel management assistance.
- Provides supporting schedules for GAAP reporting, year-end financial reporting, as well as policy interpretation and compliance.
Essential Knowledge And Abilities
- Strong financial, analytical, critical problem solving and thinking skills.
- Exceptional organizational, management and communication skills with high level of attention to detail and ability to coordinate and prioritize work and activities.
- Advanced level of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects, and still meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Demonstrated ability in applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and a working knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS).
- Experience establishing and maintaining working relationships with various individuals’ at all organizational levels.
- Exceptional organizational skills to manage data, workflows, and financial records.
- Knowledge of electronic workflows, including development and implementation processes.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, Training And/or Certifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or commensurate training and experience.
- Five years of senior accounting management experience.
- Five years of supervisory experience with a demonstrated success in leadership and people management.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of innovative and participative management techniques.
- Current experience using an enterprise financial software package such as PeopleSoft Financials.
- Experience in performing Assistant Controller or Controller functions including oversight of general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and procurement functions.
