Position Title: Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Employment Type: Full Time/Faculty/Exempt
Reports To: The Assistant Professor will report to the Chair of the Chemistry Department
The Chemistry Program offers an array of B.S. concentrations in Chemistry emphasizing biochemistry, pre-health, business and natural products in addition to an ACS approved concentration. The Department is strengthened by its ties to local industry, access to a wide array of instrumentation including GC-MS and LC-MS, and close relationship with the Department of Biological Sciences. The successful candidate may mentor candidates in the M.S. program within the Department of Biological Sciences.
Essential Job Functions
The Department of Chemistry in the College of Natural and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in Biochemistry to begin August 2022. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, have the ability to fulfill requirements in scholarship and research, contribute service to the university, college, department, profession, and community, and possess a strong appreciation for the University’s student-centered mission. The Department is especially interested in candidates with biochemistry related research projects suitable for undergraduate participants. Preference will be given to candidates with post-Ph.D. teaching and research experience. The annual teaching load is 24 contact hours. The assignment for this candidate will likely include general, organic, and biochemistry courses within the major and introductory courses for the nursing program.
Key Job Responsibilities
For the probationary period:
60% Teaching:
General, organic, and biochemistry courses within the major and introductory courses for the nursing program.
30% Research:
Establish a research program leading to publication, presentation, and/or proposals for further funding.
10% Service:
Service to the Chemistry Department, College, University, Profession and Community
Qualifications
- Ph. D. in biochemistry or related field. ABD will also be considered; however, contract renewal will be contingent on completing degree within one-year of hire.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and ability to use learning management systems.
- Research in biochemistry or closely related field with projects suitable for undergraduates.
