The Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Sociology position from Sociologists with active research programs (Open Specialization) who are qualified to teach the following courses in both face-to-face and online formats: Introduction to Statistics (through regression), Research Methods, Data Collection and Analysis, and Report Writing for the Social Sciences.
Evidence of excellent teaching and an appreciation of the role of research at an undergraduate liberal arts institution are essential. We are a social justice-oriented department and particularly value scholars whose work connects to communities.
The usual teaching load is four courses per semester.

Essential Job Functions
Duties and Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited to:
- Teaching undergraduate courses in sociology. Faculty may also have an opportunity to teach in our MAPS (Master of Arts in Applied Professional Studies) program.
- Teaching the following required general courses in Sociology in both face-to-face and online formats: Introduction to Statistics (through regression), Research Methods, Data Collection and Analysis, and Report Writing for the Social Sciences.
- Teaching online, daytime and evening classes
- Conducting high quality research with expectation for peer-reviewed publication
- Actively participating in service to the department, college and university.
Retention and promotion are assessed based on excellence of teaching (60%), scholarly research (30%) and service (10%) to the Sociology Department, College of Social Science and Professional Studies, and University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Essential Knowledge And Abilities
- Knowledge and ability to teach specified courses
- Knowledge and ability to conduct research and scholarly activities
- Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge and respect for those of other cultures or backgrounds.
- Ability to analyze data for program improvement, assessment.
- Ergonomic Requirements: Sufficient mobility and dexterity to move around office, campus and community. Ability to work with keyboard, mouse and monitor.
- Ability to attend meetings, workshops, and conferences.
- Equipment to be used on the job: Laptop, and/or desktop computer, printer, copier, projector, tablets, Smart Boards, Video Conferencing, Interactive Whiteboard Systems, telephone including voice mail and Fax.
Education, Experience, Training And/or Certifications
- Ph.D. in Sociology required by start date of August 24, 2022
- Teaching the following required general courses in Sociology in both face-to-face and online formats: Introduction to Statistics (through regression), Sociological Theory, Research Methods, Data Collection and Analysis, and Report Writing for the Social Sciences.
- Evidence of scholarly research with specialization in sociology.
- Background or experience in preparation to work effectively with diverse student and faculty populations
Area of Specialization: Open
- The department has a strong preference for those who can provide students with community-based learning experiences
- Post-secondary teaching experiences
- Knowledge of and interest in online teaching
- Excellent teaching and advising skills
- A commitment to undergraduate education
