Position Title: Assistant Professor
Employment Type: Full time, Faculty, Salaried
Reports To: The Assistant Professor of Special Education will report to the Chair of the Teacher Education department.
Pay Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
The Institute of Professional Educator Development (IPED) seeks an assistant professor of teacher education with an emphasis in special education. Responsibilities include teaching courses in the teacher education department and curriculum development at the undergraduate level; supervision of clinical field experiences and student teaching; and working collaboratively with IPED staff and faculty, the IPED Executive Committee, and the IPED Advisory Council. This position requires service to the profession, College, University and local community and mentoring students with a strong focus on the clinical program and the schools and community groups supporting those placements. The successful candidate may be required to teach online, hybrid, and/or evening courses.
This position will teach and supervise 24 credits annually (4/4 standard fall/spring course teaching load) in the teacher education department, as assigned by the department Chair. Opportunities to teach additional courses in the Summer and Winterim semesters may be available for additional compensation depending upon the needs of the educator preparation program. This position is expected to establish and maintain an active research program in the field of education. In addition, the position will be expected to contribute service to UW-Parkside, the College of Social Sciences and Professional Studies (CSSPS), the Institute of Professional Educator Development, and the local and regional community.
Essential Job Functions
Teaching and Clinical Supervision (60%)
- Conducting clinical observations of teacher candidates in PK-12 classroom
- Teaching courses, such as:
- Introduction to Disability
- Individual Learning Design and Technology
- Teaching Exceptional Learners
- Behavioral and Psychosocial Models
- Transition and Self-Determination
- Case Management and Developing Individualized Plans
- Academic and Behavior Assessment
Scholarly Research (20%)
Service (20%)
- Service to IPED, College of Social Sciences and Professional Studies (CSSPS), UW- Parkside, the profession, and the PK-12 community at state and national level.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction or related field in education with emphasis in special education. *Should have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. by the start date of appointment.
- At least three years of successful teaching in K-12 settings, or equivalent as determined by the department.
- Knowledge of special education pedagogy and the integration of technology into teaching and learning.
The ideal candidate will possess the ability to supervise and/or mentor teacher candidates and have experience working with diverse student populations.
