The University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Sport Management.
Primary responsibilities include: teaching, advising graduate students majoring in sport management, supervising fieldwork (internship) placements and independent studies, scholarly research activity, assisting with development and staging of the UW-Parkside Sport Management Conference and other seminars, and participating in departmental/college/campus/community/professional service.
This position will teach 24 credits annually (4/4 standard fall/spring course teaching load) in the sport management program. This position will teach classes in both the undergraduate and graduate programs and complete other duties as assigned by the HKSM Department Chair.
Opportunities to teach additional courses in the summer and winterim semesters may be available in both programs for additional compensation depending upon the needs of the HKSM Department.

- Sport Management courses at undergraduate and graduate levels
- Graduate advising
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Publish in scholarly and industry journals and publications
- Attend industry conferences and seminars

Essential Knowledge And Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of sports industry and sports business
- Knowledge of sport management profession with regard to academic settings
- Ability to conduct professional academic research
- Ergonomic Requirements:
- Sufficient mobility and dexterity to move around office, Sports and Activity Center, campus and community.
- Ability to work with keyboard, mouse and monitor.
- Ability to attend meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Ability to teach in-person and online courses
Education, Experience, Training and/or Certifications
- Earned terminal degree (Ph.D, Ed.D, J.D.) with focus in the sport management field, required by the time of appointment. All But Dissertation (A.B.D.) status candidates will be considered for a one-year appointment to a Lecturer position with potential conversion to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position possible if the terminal degree is completed by June 1, 2022
- Evidence of ability to teach courses in at least three of the following areas of the sport management field:
- Revenue generation (sport sales (ticket and/or corporate), fundraising, etc.),
- Sports communications and social media,
- Sports organization governance and regulation,
- Ethical and leadership issues in sports, and
- Facility development and management (operations, sustainability, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an active research agenda
- Recent (past five years) experience in the sports industry, especially in sport sales or communications
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain an active service agenda in the department, college, campus, community and profession
