Assistant Professor of Developmental Psychology

Responsibilities include teaching psychology courses. This position will teach 24 credits annually (4/4 standard fall/spring course teaching load) in the psychology program. This position will teach classes in both the undergraduate and (possibly) graduate programs as assigned by the Psychology Department Chair (including courses in Developmental Psychology, and other Psychology courses). Opportunities to teach additional courses in the summer and winterim semesters may be available at the undergraduate and graduate levels for additional compensation depending upon the needs of the Psychology Department.

This position is expected to establish and maintain an active research program in the field of developmental psychology. In addition, this position will be expected to contribute service to UW-Parkside, the College of Natural and Health Sciences, the Psychology Department, profession, and community including advising students in the psychology program. Preference will be given to candidates with experience supervising undergraduate or graduate research, working with students and staff from culturally diverse backgrounds. Candidates should also have experience teaching developmental psychology, introduction to psychology, and psychological statistics courses (including having served as a teaching assistant). The ability to teach adult development, social cognition, cross-cultural psychology, health psychology, or psychology of personality would be extremely beneficial. Candidates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

Teaching:

  • Teaching courses in Developmental Psychology, and other Psychology courses at the undergraduate and (possibly) graduate level.

Scholarly Research

Service:

Service to Psychology Department, College of Natural and Health Sciences, UW-Parkside, profession and community including advising students in the psychology program.

Essential Knowledge And Abilities

  • Knowledge and ability to teach Developmental Psychology, and other Psychology courses at the undergraduate level.
  • Knowledge and ability to teach courses in Developmental Psychology at the graduate level.
  • Knowledge and ability to conduct research and scholarly activities within a chosen sub-field of psychology related to Developmental Psychology.
  • The position is not responsible for money or university funds of accounts which hold financial information.
  • Ergonomic requirements: sufficient mobility and dexterity to move around office, campus and community. Ability to work with keyboard, mouse and monitor. Ability to attend meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences.
  • Equipment to be used on the job: laptop or desktop computer, printer, copier, projector, telephone including voice mail and FAX.
Qualifications

Education, Experience, Training And/or Certifications

 

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Developmental Psychology. This does not include degrees in educational psychology, human development and family studies/sciences, and human ecology. ABD will also be considered; however, contract renewal will be contingent on completing degree within one-year of date of hire.
  • Demonstrated excellence in empirical research in developmental psychology with a specialization in cognitive development (e.g., attention, memory, perception, emotion, language, judgment and decision-making, disorders that affect cognitive development), or multicultural issues across development (e.g., acculturation, racial and ethnic identity, cross-cultural investigations of developmental processes, health or mental health disparities). The developmental period researched may include any range across the lifespan.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching as instructor of record for psychology courses.
