Position Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer

Employment Type: Full

Reports To: The Assistant Athletic Trainer will report to the Director of Sports Medicine


Essential Job Functions

The primary function of the position is to be an Athletic Trainer of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Athletics Sports Medicine team in the implementation of all aspects of the athletic training program in support of 15 intercollegiate athletic teams.

Key Job Responsibilities

Sports Medicine

1. Assist with the organization and administration of a comprehensive Division II athletic training program under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, and educational programs for University of Wisconsin-Parkside student-athletes (35%)

2. Maintain complete, accurate and confidential, medically-related records and paperwork on student-athlete injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation for insurance, legal and/or professional purposes. (20%)

3. Prepare practice and competition sites for emergency treatment and safety measures. Monitor environmental conditions, playing fields and courts, and athletic equipment to insure safety of student-athletes during practice and competition. (15%)

4. Communicate and work cooperatively with assigned sport and strength and conditioning coaches regarding student-athlete welfare such as daily injury reports, musculoskeletal examinations, and safety recommendations. Attend departmental meetings as required. (10%)

5. Evening and weekend work required as necessary with some travel expected. (10%)

6. Comply with policies and rules of the NCAA, UW-Parkside, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the UW System. (5%)

7. Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics or Head Athletic Trainer. (5%)

  • Skill to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and with attention to detail.
  • Strong, interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide-range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or entry level Master’s Degree in Athletic Training
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Wisconsin.
  • Certified for CPR/AED
