The University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for the position of Athletics Academic Coordinator.

The Athletics Academic Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student-Athlete Welfare. This is a 10-month Full Time position.

The principal functions of the position are to serve as academic support to student-athletes in all sports, acting as liaison between athletics and academic advisors across campus, specifically the Academic Advising and Career Center and the student-athlete primary advisors within the academic departments.

A member of the eligibility certification team, along with the Faculty Athletic Representative and Office of the Registrar, this position will assist in the design and implementation of initiatives and programming to promote eligibility, retention, and degree completion for student-athletes. Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Athletics and Director of Athletics.

Essential Job Functions


Academic Eligibility Review and Coordination

  • Serve as academic advisor to student-athletes which includes:
  • Working with student-athletes to develop educational and graduation plans that are consistent with institutional and departmental policies and procedures as well as their individual academic and athletic goals
  • Liaise with primary academic advisors across campus on degree program re

Assist student-athletes in registration and class scheduling

  • Serve as the athletics liaison to academic advisors across campus, including attendance at meetings in cooperation with the Director of Academic and Career Advising for the institution.
  • Review student-athlete course schedule prior to the beginning of each semester to flag potential issues of eligibility or progress towards degree.
  • Participate and assist with athletics new student orientation sessions, including advising and registration on those dates.
  • Provide outreach and education to incoming transfer and freshmen student-athletes regarding college level course they may previously completed.
  • Meet with student-athletes considering schedule modifications to ensure full-time status and eligibility.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Serve as a member of the athletics administration and the student-athlete eligibility certification team.
  • Provide comprehensive semester schedules, retention and grade reports to the Associate Director of Athletics, Head Coaches, and Athletics Administration.
  • Communicate with at-risk students regarding eligibility requirements and resources available across campus.

Administrative and Student-Engagement Activities

  • Attend meetings and engage with fellow academic advisors across campus as scheduled by the Director of the Advising and Career Center and as otherwise necessary.
  • Assist in coordinating and presenting at educational sessions for student-athletes, staff, and cross-campus constituencies.
  • Assist in coordinating and attend student-athlete Academic Recognition Nights.
  • Engage with resources available both on campus and nationally to identify and implement best practices for academic advisement of student-athletes.
  • Stay current and comply with policies and rules of the NCAA, UW-Parkside, the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and the UW System.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or Associate AD/Compliance and Administration.

Education, Experience, Training And/or Certifications


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1-2 years experience working with student-athletes, advising college students, in higher education, or related field
