Position Title: Graduate Assistant (Women’s Soccer)

Employment Type: Part Time, Academic Staff, Salary

Reports To: The Soccer GA will report to the Head Soccer Coach

The graduate assistant soccer coach will report directly to the Soccer Head Coach and will gain experience assisting with all aspects of a Division II soccer program. The ideal candidate will have experience as a student-athlete, manager, and/or coach in a college soccer program.

The successful candidate will work a 6-month appointment for the 2023-24 academic year and a 10 month appointment for the 2024-25 academic year.  The graduate assistant will receive a full tuition waiver and an annual stipend of $9,000, paid monthly.  These positions will remain open until filled. 

The coaching graduate assistants will also serve as an instructor for one activity class for the Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Management department (HKSM). To be eligible, students must be admitted to the in-person Master of Sport Management Program (MSSM) at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Appointments are contingent upon maintenance of minimum credit requirements and good standing in the MSSM program.

Parkside Athletics and HKSM have collaborated on the graduate assistant program for four years, fostering success for the athletics department, sport management program, and, most importantly, the graduate students. Alumni of the program have gone on to successful careers in college athletics and in club/youth and professional sports, including North Dakota State, Indiana State, Colorado College, Stephen F. Austin, UW-Parkside, University of Illinois-Chicago, and Quincy.


Essential Job Functions

1.  Planning and execution of practice.

3.  Opponent scouting

4.  Film breakdown

5.  Recruitment of student-athletes

6.  Travel and operational logistics

7.  Organizing camps and clinics

8.  Monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes

9.  Consistently demonstrate a positive team player attitude, building and maintaining professional working relationships with all departmental staff, including but not limited to the athletics administration, the sports medicine department, support staff, and other department coaches.

10. Represent the athletics department through collaboration with a variety of campus groups.

11. Represent the athletics department appropriately and intentionally through community involvement, speaking engagements, media responsibilities, etc.

12. Represent UW-Parkside as appropriate with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) and the NCAA.

13. Consistent with NCAA Bylaw 11 and institutional procedures, Coach understands and agrees that if Coach is found in violation of any NCAA or Conference Legislation or fails to report a violation he/she shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree

The ideal candidate will have experience as a student-athlete, manager, and/or coach in a college soccer program.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Benefit Details: 

Graduate assistants who hold appointments at 33% of full time or more are eligible for remission of tuition for the semester(s) of appointment. Courses covered by the remission must be relevant to the student’s program of study. Students will still be responsible for segregated fees.
