The University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for the position of Lecturer in English.
The Department of Literatures and Languages at the University of Wisconsin Parkside invites applications for a full-time, renewable lecturer position. The position will focus primarily on the teaching of courses in the composition sequence.
Essential Job Functions
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach 30 credits of college-level courses in specified areas per academic year, participation in department communications, meetings, and assessment projects, and well as college and university meetings, events, and programs as assigned. Perform responsibilities including class preparation and assessment of student learning (including participation in department assessment projects).
- Service to Department, College, and University- Provide service to the department, college, and university as assigned {participate in meetings, programs, and events).
Essential Knowledge, Abilities and competencies
- The hire will be expected to be familiar with online learning management platforms, online grading programs, and appropriate computer technology, including software programs like MS Word. The applicant must be willing to learn potentially new programs, like Canvas and SOLAR.
- The position does not include responsibility for money, university funds, or accounts that hold financial information.
- The position will involve sitting or standing for long periods of time at a desk and doing computer work.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, Training And / or Certifications
Required
- Masters in English or rhetoric and composition (or an equivalent discipline) from an accredited university.
- Strong record of teaching college-level composition courses.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body.
- Experience designing assignments to support academically unprepared learners.
- Experience with technology in the classroom; excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated promise as an instructor based on evidence of teaching effectiveness.
Salary and Benefits
Commensurate depending on qualifications and experience.
