Position Title:  Technical Director (Lighting/Projection Design & Production Manager)

Employment Type: Full-time, Academic Staff, Salaried

Reports To: The Technical Director will report to Chair of the Theatre Arts department.

Pay Range:  $50,000 - $54,000, annualized

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Theatre Arts Department alongside the College of Arts and Humanities is seeking to hire an Academic Instructional Staff position in Lighting and Projection Design & Production Management. The individual will teach two academic courses a year including theatrical lighting/projection design and computer aided drafting. The position will also provide lighting or projection designs for productions in the Theatre Arts Department, including supervision and mentoring of student-designers and student-technicians. Additionally, this position is responsible for the Production Management and the supervision of technical support for the Regional Center for the Arts and Humanities/RITA.


Essential Job Functions

Theatre Design and Production

  • Design two productions a year in the area of Lighting or Projection Design.
  • Serve as the Theatre Arts Company Production Manager by creating departmental production calendars in collaboration with the department chair, assignments and scheduling of backstage crews, strike crews, and technical rehearsal schedules.
  • Assist with the management of general production needs in collaboration with the department Technical Director, Costume Shop Manager, Sound Supervisor, and the Department Chair.
  • Participation in weekly department and production meetings, as well as monthly company meetings.
  • Collaborate with Faculty to strengthen, through example and supervision, a positive and healthy studio environment.

Production Manager of the Rita Tallent Picken Center for the Arts and Humanities/RITA

  • Management and supervision of the calendars for campus and outside rental events.
  • Responsible for the planning and supervision of technical support for RITA events.
  • Supervision of RITA staff assistants
  • Develop and recommend long-range plans, objectives, and facility needs for the RITA.
  • Cultivate a production environment of trust by upholding high standards of communication that models best practices in professionalism.

Teaching

  • Teach two academic courses per year in the Theatre Arts Department in the areas of Lighting, Projections, and Computer Aided Drafting.
  • Mentor student designers and technicians in the production process.
  • Career advising and mentorship of students
  • Participate in annual academic and artistic assessments of company members.
Qualifications
  • MFA/MA in Theatrical Design and Technology; BFA/BA considered with a minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in Production Management.
  • Professional Experience in Lighting, Projection Design and Technology
  • Previous teaching experience.

The Theatre Arts Department is a highly engaged award-winning department in the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
