The University of Wisconsin-Parkside College of Business, Economics, and Computing is seeking to hire an Assistant/Associate/Professor of MIS.

Primary responsibilities for this tenure track position are teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in information systems, conducting research, and providing service to the department, college, university, community, and profession. In addition to teaching typical information systems classes, the department is particularly interested in faculty members with expertise in subjects relevant to the region. Candidates should be able to teach courses such as computer networking and IT infrastrtcture, programming, and database management systems.We are also interested in candidates who can teach in at least one of the following areas-Cloud Computing, big data analytics; Internet of Things, Cybersecurity, Artifical Inteliegence, and Enterprise systems etc;

The College of Business, Economics, and Computing is AACSB accredited and recognizes multiple types of research including basic, applied, and pedagogical. The college particularly values teaching, research and professional engagement that connects the faculty and students to the vibrant SE Wisconsin region, as well as global business. The college also encourages high impact practices such as supervising student organizations, participating in competitions, and undergraduate/graduate student research.

Applicants should have or be pursuing a Ph.D., D.B.A. or other similar terminal degree in Information Systems or a related area. The teaching load for the position is 24 credits annually (4/4 load is the norm) with some reassign time for teaching graduate classes. Applicants should be interested in teaching in a variety of formats including face-to-face, online, and competency-based formats.


Essential Job Functions

Responsibilities     

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate information systems courses consistent with the faculty member’s area of expertise. Assigned classes can be taught in face-to-face, online, hybrid, or competency-based format.
  • Advise or mentor students.
  • Develop new classes and update existing classes in face-to-face, hybrid, online, and competency-based formats.
  • Maintain academic currency through scholarly work and professional engagement.
  • Attend department, college, and university meetings and assist with relevant committee work, activities and events.
  • Provide service to the university, community, the relevant academic discipline and profession.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge And Abilities

  • Knowledge and ability to teach online courses and face-to-face courses in a traditional university classroom equipped with a chalkboard/whiteboard and multimedia technology.
  • Knowledge of modern information systems methodologies, practices, research, and technologies. Candidate must have knowledge and the ability to teach in technical areas such as computer networking and IT infrastrtcture; programming, and database management systems. The candidate must also be able to teach in some of the following areas; Cloud Computing,Big data analytics; Cybersecurity,  Artifical Inteliegence, Enterprise systems etc.;
  • Knowledge and ability to conduct research and scholarly activities and publish in qualified Information System academic journals.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with MIS faculties to develop scholar research projects and teaching programs;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff verbally, electronically (via email, Skype, or FaceTime), and in writing.
  • Ability to learn new teaching/learning methodologies.
  • Ability to use a state-of-art learning management system (e.g., Desire2Learn or Canvas).
  • Ability to learn/use multimedia software (e.g. Kaltura) to record and disseminate lectures and related instructional materials for a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to work in an office and meet with individual students.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work while being responsive to Departmental and University needs.
  • Ergonomic requirements: sufficient mobility and dexterity to move around office, campus, and community; ability to work with a laptop computer; and, ability to attend meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Equipment to be used on the job: laptop computer; printer; photocopier; classroom multimedia technology (e.g., data projector); and, communication technologies (e.g., telephone/voicemail).
Qualifications
  • PhD, DBA, or similar terminal degree in information systems or similar area.
  • All But Dissertation (ABD) candidates may apply. Doctorate must be completed by start date. 
  • Candidates at the Associate or Professor level must have the academic credentials, including active scholarship and a strong teaching record, to qualify for these positions.
  • Minimum of one year’s teaching experience at the college level with evidence of teaching effectiveness.
  • Interdisciplinary experience in other business areas is a plus.
