Position Title: Police Dispatcher II
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: The Police Dispatcher II will report to the Police Sergeant 
Full Time Pay Range: Starting at $19-$20 depending on qualifications

Under the general supervision of a Law Enforcement Supervisor, the Police Dispatcher II serves in a critical role as the central communication hub for the UW-Parkside Police Department and campus telephone operations. This position operates independently to manage two-way radio, telephone, and computer communications, while also monitoring campus alarm and notification systems essential to campus safety.

The role requires the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and remain calm and focused during high-pressure or emergency situations. It demands exceptional attention to detail, discretion with sensitive and confidential information, and a strong working knowledge of both department and university policies and procedures. The Police Dispatcher II is responsible for maintaining accurate police reports, dispatch logs, and records, and plays a key role in compiling, maintaining, and distributing legally required crime and activity statistics.

 


Essential Job Functions
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in high-stress emergency situations, providing accurate and detailed instructions to a variety of audiences
  • Troubleshoot, triage, and escalate issues according to established policies and procedures
  • Document incidents accurately and adhere to all applicable policies, rules, and regulations
  • Maintain complex records of information in directories and alarm databases
  • Ensure proper handling and security of sensitive and confidential information
  • Support the collection and reporting of legally required crime and activity statistics
Qualifications
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of computer software including Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior dispatch experience
  • Experience using two-way radios and knowledge of radio communication protocol
  • TIME certification
