UW-Parkside is seeking a Power Plant Operator I OR Power Plant Operator II for the Heating and Chilling Plant on campus. The Heating & Chilling Plant provides steam and chilled water to campus buildings, which are inter-connected by a series of underground tunnels and conduits. Power Plant Operators are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the entire plant in a safe and efficient manner, assistance in emergency situations, emergency repairs, and performance of any other duties associated with the operation of a complex heating and chilling plant. Candidates will be chosen for the position that best fits their experience and qualifications.
Position Title: Power Plant Operator I
Employment Type: Full-Time, University Staff, Non-exempt
Reports To: The Power Plant Operator I will report to the Power Plant Superintendent
Pay Range: $26/hr
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Training in heating, cooling and/or power plant operations, or related experience
- Obtain before completion of probation (12 month minimum) and maintain ASOPE Third Class Power Plant Operating Engineer License, or approved equivalent.
Position Title: Power Plant Operator II
Employment Type: Full-Time, University Staff, Non-exempt
Reports To: The Power Plant Operator II will report to the Power Plant Superintendent
Pay Range: $28/hr
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Formalized training and/or >1 year experience in heating, cooling and/or power plant operations
- Currently possess and maintain ASOPE Third Class Power Plant Operating Engineer License, or approved equivalent
Essential Job Functions
- Operates, maintains, and repairs boilers of varying types and capacities and associated equipment
- Operates, maintains, and repairs chillers of various types and sizes and all related equipment
- Cleans plant work areas and equipment
- Performs planned and emergency maintenance of all plant equipment
- Takes readings from charts, meters, gauges, and related tools at established intervals and records information on daily log sheets or logbooks
- Performs water testing, monitoring, documentation, and adjusting of various chemistry and water treatment related equipment within American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) water treatment standards
- Operates, maintains, and repairs Centrifugal Air Compressors and all related equipment to supply campus compressed air services
- Operates, maintains, and repairs Electrical Generation equipment of various types and all related equipment
