Position Title: Shipping & Mail Supervisor
Employment Type: Full time, Academic Staff, Salaried
Reports To: The Shipping & Mail Supervisor will report to the Controller.
Pay Range: Starting at $50,000 annualized
The Shipping and Mail Supervisor is responsible for managing shipping and mail services for UW Parkside, including inventory management and distribution; mail and package receipt and delivery; and shipping and delivery of packages. This position manages central receiving and the surplus sales function for the University campus and supervises staff performing related duties.
This working manager is responsible for overseeing department daily operations, including budgets, purchase orders, cost allocations and hiring of staff.
Essential Job Functions
- Oversees staff responsible for inventory management and distribution, mail and package receipt and delivery, and shipping and/or delivery of packages
- Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- Maintains records and manifests regarding incoming packages, location, and date of delivery
- Ensures that staff is trained in safety and security procedures
- Determines policies and procedures related to accurate mail and package receipt and delivery and will publish these for training all staff
- Supervises postal inspections and monitors the postal levels on the unit's postage meter for use in budget projections
- Reviews, processes and manages the ongoing operations of surplus and auction items for sale
- Demonstrated ability toward continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes and provide quality seamless customer service
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Management or related field
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience
- Valid U.S. driver’s license, a minimum of 2 years’ driving experience and ability to pass a driver background check in order to drive a state vehicle
Ergonomic Requirement
- Requires strenuous physical work: heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds
- Occasional carrying of lightweight envelopes or parcels weighing up to 10 lbs.
- Occasional climbing of stairways to access floors within buildings and climbing in/out of delivery van.
- Occasional lifting of totes of mail weighing up to 25 lbs.; incidental lifting of boxes, tilting and transferring furniture weighing up to 55 lbs. using a dolly.
- Frequent hand activity requiring light effort grasping; Incidental hard grasping efforts while lifting items weighing up to 55 lbs.
- Frequent pushing and pulling of mail cart requiring 5 lbs. of force; Incidental pushing and pulling requiring efforts approaching 50 lbs. when transferring fully loaded large carts or using dollies to transfer furniture.
- Occasional reaching when sorting in-bound mail, retrieving mail or sorting parcels.
- Occasional sitting when driving; Occasional standing on hard concrete floors.
- Frequent walking when sorting or making deliveries, including outdoor walking;
- Incidental stooping, bending or kneeling when gathering items from floor or cart
- Functional vision to read and drive. Peripheral vision to safely operate university vehicles.
- Functional hearing to verbally communicate with co-workers and customers
- Functional touch and tactile sensitivity when sorting mail/packages or working with computer

- Comprehend written and oral instructions and as directed
- Ability to effectively manage time and schedules
