June 26, 2014 - UW Parkside Students at the Highest Peak of the Dolomite Mountains in Italy!
After visiting Rome and the greatest historical and cultural sights of Italy, we moved to Trento a town at the foothills of the Dolomites. Trento is also the largest wine producing region of Italy.
The team visited the Mezzacorana region, the cradle of Pinot Grigio. We were hosted by Rotari, a company that has a unique model of winegrowers that are both a cooperative as well as a share-holding company.
On their free day, some students visited the highest scalable peak of the Dolomite Mountains, that was a part of Austria till the 1920s and is now an autonomous region of Italy. On their final day, the UWP team is visiting the University of Trento, rated the top in the nation.
Oh, and a real Ciao from Trento Italy! :)
Taking UWP to the highest parts of the world!
Next stop - Venice!
June 20, 2014 - Off to a Great Start!
With students who are an ideal demographic representation of UWP-Parkside: traditional and nontraditional, undergraduate and graduate, and from various ethnic backgrounds.
We are covering Rome, Trento, Florence, Venice, Calabria and Lecce over a period of 17 days, visiting businesses, cultural establishments, government offices, universities and nonprofit organizations.
In the first few days, students got a chance to see the historical sights of Rome, from the Vatican, the Colosseum and the Sistine Chapel. We also were able to tour the Senate of Rome, arranged by Senator Turano from Chicago and to learn about the working models of the government. It was an honor to visit as guests of the Senate.
One of our strategic goals through this visit is to strengthen our partnership with Calabria and build a new one with University of Salento.
I am excited that our students are a part of that discussion and initial contact.
More to follow from Trento and on........"
