Lauren Rick: In Her Own Words

Lauren Rick; Psychology
I am a 55-year-old nontraditional full-time student. I juggle elderly parents, school, and also volunteer for the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI). I am a psychology student who is planning on working with the mentally ill when I finish my master's degree.
My education is already impacting others in the community. UW-Parkside has dedicated professors who really make a difference in the lives of their students. With budget cuts, our professors are overwhelmed, as more of the teaching staff leaves to go to schools with more reasonable pay.
I could not afford to go to these schools. Living in Burlington, UW-Parkside was the closest affordable college I could attend.
